I am probably asking the impossible but I need to find a place (any place in the world) where I can get a pair of black and white (any design or color blend) veil fans. Veil Fans in general are hard to get and I know I am asking the impossible but any help would be appreciated.

Sun, April 6, 2008 - 7:26 PMJudy's Creative Costuming sells these (she's in Sedalia MO) - I don't know about white/black but I did see other colors - they were $125/pair. Here is a link to her webpage - don't see them there but you can always email her

Mon, April 7, 2008 - 6:29 AMNot sure how you feel about eBay, but Universal Curio sells some too. They also do custom orders and ship very quickly. I have a pair from them and like them very much. Now if I could just learn how to use them!!!

Hope the link works!!!

Re: Veil Fans
Mon, April 7, 2008 - 9:04 AMI second Faye; I bought a pair of her FanVeilZZ at Rakassah (in the "lava" pattern) and I just love them.
You can look at some of her designs here:
www.faye4u.com/boutique.html
but I notice she has a note saying she's not taking orders right now. I'm hoping that'll be a temporary situation.

Mon, April 7, 2008 - 9:12 AMOh, I forgot--I also found this place; I've never dealt with them or seen their veils, but it looks like they have a pretty good selection. Looks like they do have a black-and-white one.

You could also try Meleea:

Wed, April 9, 2008 - 10:47 AMI knew about the Bellydancefans.com site but I could not remember it. I know the site belongs to a belly dance troupe from California and one of their mothers. Thanks for reminding me.

Re: Veil Fans
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 9:46 PMYou can make your own if you are feeling froggy! I figured out how to make some for my daughter because I was practicing at home so much she wanted to dance with them too. You will just have to get craft or fabric glue, a large chinese fan with the silk ruffly edges in either black or white and silk in the length and color combo you want (some white silk and some black procian dye)... then just glue it on, let dry and then cut out the half circle in the middle to match the fan you glued it to.
I also figured out how to turn a fan into a lefty by taking the wire or bolt out and reshuffling the spines to the opposite orientation and (using a locking washer) bolt them back together. If they have just the bent wires holding them together you will probably want to change them to the little tiny bolt anyway since the bent wire digs into the meat of your thumb and hurts like hell! You have to take the wire you cut off and the fan to the hardware store and it is not easy finding something small enough for it, so be prepared for trying a few different places. It is totally worth it though, I can really keep them aloft for quite a long time now that they are both more comfy (since I am not fighting with the one in my left hand and not in severe pain from either).
I can't post any of the performances yet because I am using a song that hasn't been released yet...whoops! -
