Hi there..
I'm trying to eat more (because I don't eat a lot)
for a skinny dancer like me, it is hard to do a wholesome shimmy...I need more jello is what I call it. But also to look more fuller and have a healthier appearance.
I have seen very slim dancers but we are rare.
So, anyone? Maybe we can give each other tips!

Re: Has any dancer tried to gain weight?
Fri, January 2, 2009 - 10:29 PMI haven't ever needed to gain any weight, but I have heard that when people do, they try to eat right before going to bed.
If you can, you should talk to a fitness trainer or doctor though, because you don't want to end up fooling around with your metabolism or gaining weight in a way that could be unhealthy. Weight training could also be good for bulking up a bit in targeted areas. -

Re: Has any dancer tried to gain weight?
Sat, January 3, 2009 - 5:41 PMI'm 5' 9" & went from 115 to 137 lbs on purpose! There I was on my 33rd birthday, thinking skinny don't age well. The upside: bigger everything, up a cup size,& bigger booty, my dance costumes still fit (God bless elastic & draw strings) my boyfriend bought all my favorite jeans, again in my new size (if that doesn't say I like the new figure, nothing does!) The downside even though I'd say it was a healthy & well distributed weight gain and it took a year, I've used ways I couldn't recommend like eating a lb of chocolates, drinking sodas & lattes more than usual, my mentality was it's okay I'm trying to gain weight! Then I lounged around alot more than usual, using a daily 40 minute walk & bellydancing twice a week to keep me in shape. So now I'm weening off the extra sodas ect, happy with my new weight & adding toning exercizes to shape up that booty!

Re: Has any dancer tried to gain weight?
Thu, January 8, 2009 - 2:50 AMIf that's your nature you should care about not doing things that are unhealthy. Eating right before sleeping is not useful, at least not for the purpose of a good sleep, you get sound sleep after you've digested. Eating lots of icecream won't increase your fitness although some more cake can help. If you are skinny, you can check on your metabolism, your blood pressure, see if you're the nervy, jumpy sort that can't sit still for a moment. See to it that you get lots of fresh air to raise your appetite, you can do cycling and swimming, and enjoy preparing meals with friends and try for the french lifestyle on weekends (sitting on the table eating well cooked meal with salad and closing with cheese which is really a healthy plus tasty thing to do chatting and discussing while eating in between, for at least two hours).

Wed, January 21, 2009 - 7:24 AMI have the opposite problem but if you are trying to gain weight and are very active I suggest using a protein supplement-
www.maxiwomen.com/
I find this one really good and their website has lots of info for women on it. This is the UK website but sure they have a US one too :-)

Re: Has any dancer tried to gain weight?
Thu, January 22, 2009 - 12:01 AMNutritional drinks like Ensure and Boost are nutritious, healthy sources of extra calories. There are many different varieties and flavors to choose from. You can either replace or supplement your normal breakfast with a bottle of Ensure or Boost. I also sometimes drink it before dance class, to compensate for the calories that I'm going to burn off.
